The Relation among Soil Microorganism, Soil Enzyme Activity and Removal Rate of Pollutant in Constructed Wetlands Purifying Micro-polluted River in Southwestern China


Three middle-scale pilot horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (CWs) were constructed topurify micro-polluted river in Chongqing, China. The quantity of soil microorganism (including bacteria, fungi andactinomyces) and enzyme activity (including dehydrogenase, catalase and urease) were monitored, and also thepurification efficiencies of CWs were studied. Three experimental systems all had good removal ability to pollutantsand were adaptable to water quality fluctuations. Removal rates of pollutants, number of soil microbe and activity ofsoil enzyme in planted wetland were higher than blank wetland. There were significant correlation between removalof total nitrogen (TN-N) (p<0.01) and temperature, and so as to the number of soil microbe (p<0.01) and activity ofsoil enzyme (p<0.05). The Ⅰ canonical variable could represent the most information of soil biological indictors inthree CWs. There were good linear relationship between canonical variable of microbe and enzyme, and the relationpositively correlated in planted CWs. Soil biological indictors in planted CWs could be divided into two sameclasses by clustering analysis, while there were two kinds of classification in blank CW including two or threeclasses. Hydrophyte planted in CW could help the relationship among soil biological indicators trend to be similar.There were extremely significant positive correlations between principal variable of soil biological activity andtemperature (p<0.01). There were negative correlations among removal of ammonia (NH4+-N) and soil biologicalindictors in three experimental CWs, so as to chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total phosphorus (TP-P). Therelation between removal of TN-N and soil biological indictors was very significant positive in planted CWs(p<0.05) and only positive in blank CW. Soil enzyme activity had more significant relationship with removal ratethan soil microorganism. Soil biological indictors did not have close relationship with phosphorus or carbon removalin all CWs (p>0.1). Soil biological activity could be improved more greatly by planting Arundo donax in summerand planting Acorus calamu in winter, which could promote relationship between removal of TN-N and soilbiological activity and correlation between microbe and removal of NH4+-N.......
