Autocatalytic kinetics analysis in the condensed phase


Numerous reactions exhibiting autocatalysis are amenable to kinetics analysis from data obtained with thermal methods. Examples include complex reactions such as the oxidation of organic molecules and the decomposition of energetic compounds. The global kinetics of such reactions may sometimes be analyzed with generalized equations such as d#alpha#/dt=k(#alpha#_o+#alpha#)~x(1-#alpha#)~y, where, k is the apparent rate constant, #alpha# is the extent of reaction, #alpha#_o is an autocatalysis parameter, and x and y are reaction orders. This presentation describes the origin of the autocatalytic rate law for a simple case(x=y=1) and the constraints used to evaluate the temperature dependence of k from isothermal DSC data.......
