Sustainability starts with ensuring that all people have access to basic services. These basic services are the building blocks, which will reduce poverty and promote sustainable economic development. South Africa, steeped in a history of non-accessibility to basic services by the majority of its people, identified a proactive solution to expedite access of basic water to all with the introduction of the free basic water policy.
