A SUBSTRUCTURE BASED PARALLEL LINEARSOLUTION FRAMEWORK FOR STRUCTURALSYSTEMS HAVING MULTIPLE LOADING CASES


This study presents a substructure based parallel linear solution framework for the staticrnanalysis of linear structural engineering problems having multiple loading cases. Thernframework is composed of two separate programs designed to work on PC Clusters havingrnthe Windows operating system. The first program is responsible for creating the optimumrnsubstructures for the parallel solution and first partitions the structure in such a way that thernnumber of substructures is equal to the number of processors. Then, the estimatedrncondensation time imbalance of the initial substructures is adjusted by iteratively transferringrnnodes from the substructures with slower estimated condensation times to the substructuresrnwith faster estimated condensation times. Once the final substructures are created, the secondrnprogram starts the solution. Each processor assembles its substructure's stiffness matrix andrncondenses it to the interface with other substructures. The interface problem is solved by arnparallel variable band solver. After computing the interface unknowns, each processorrncalculates the internal displacements and element stresses or forces. Examples whichrnillustrate the applicability and efficiency of this approach are also presented. In thesernexamples, the number of processors was varied from one to twelve to demonstrate thernperformance of the overall solution framework.......
