Comparison between a large bandwidth LQG and modal control methods applied to complex flexible structure


In this work, we deal with the active structural control using separately two optimal control laws, the independant modal space control and large bandwidth LQG. The sensors and the actuators are of PZT (Titanate, Zirconate, Plomb) layers glued on the structure. The studied structure is made of of three rectangular shaped and soldered plates. To deal properly with the independant modal control method, shape and location optimisation of the sensors and the actuators are done. A modal filtering concept is then introduced in order to extract the necessary modal participations of the controlled modes by minimising the effects of the unwanted modes. A numerical and an experimental validations were carried out with this control method. We controlled as many modes as the number of sensors with only two actuators. Then, we studied the large bandwidth LQG control method on the structure using the same sensors and actuators. We introduced a Kalman filter to reconstruct the whole componenets of the state vector from the limited number of sensors.
